The works carried out in the direction of expansion of the network of specially protected territories and protection of biodiversity in 2017
Currently, the total area of specially protected natural areas in the country is 892546,49 ha, as well as 9 national parks, 11 state nature reserves and 24 state nature sanctuaries.
In 2017, the creation of an ecotourism infrastructure and routes in the recreational potential areas of the Goygol National Park has been continued in accordance with international standards. About 350,000 tourists have visited the National Park in a short time.
An expert-consultant appointed by the German Development Bank for the purpose of acquaintance with the territory in July of 2017 under the project “Program on support to protected areas of Azerbaijan: Zagatala – Balakan regions”. Main objectives of the project are preparatory works on the creation of the first Zagatala-Balakan biosphere reserve in the country, strengthening of infrastructure of Zagatala reserve, as well as implementation of measures on environmental protection.
The formal procedures have been launched within the framework of the project "Improving the management of coastal ecosystems within the specially protected natural areas of Azerbaijan", envisaging the creation of the Gizilaghaj Seaside National Park by expanding the territory of the Gizilaghaj State Nature Reserve, supported by the United Nations Development Program. Thus, the boundaries of the National Park were fully defined and 1:25000 and 1: 100000 GIS maps were prepared and the construction of the administrative building with a total area of 300 m2 was completed.
Sanitary protection zones of Eldar Shami State Nature Reserve were approved by Decree No. 592 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 13, 2017 and No 487 of Korchay State Nature Reserve dated December 22, 2017.
In accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources dated from September 19, 2017, “Buz Mağarası” located on the territory of Buzluq village of Goranboy region and “Qala Dağı” located on the territory of Kalakhan village of Lerik region was assigned a regionally important natural monument status and included into the “List of state-protected natural monuments - geological (paleontological) objects".
8 gazelles were released to the territory of Aggol National Park within the framework of the project "Protection, reintroduction and restoration of historical habitats of gazelles".
In order to implement the "National Strategy for the Protection and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2017-2020" approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 3, 2016, No. 2358, the Action Plan of the MENR has been approved and established a working group including representatives of relevant government agencies and prepared a report on the work done.
1383 acts and 304 protocols have been drawn up in connection with the facts of violations in the specially protected natural areas in 2017. According to the acts and protocols, damage to the nature was determined at the amount of 136100,16 manats, and administrative penalty was 167630 manats. 29 cases to law enforcement bodies, 142 cases have been sent to the relevant sections of the district courts and the executive divisions. During 2017, were registered 45 acts and drawn up 50 protocols against culprits in violation of the law. 42 hunting guns and 271 cartridges were seized, fined for 46730 manats and claimed for1864.5 manats against them.
